Compared to other instruments, the accordion is a relatively young and multi-variant instrument. It offers a wide range of possibilities.

This becomes clear when looking at the different construction designs and regional names. In Germany, terms vary from the piano accordion and “Handharmonika”, to the “Schifferklavier” and “Riemenorgel”. The term “accordion” is connected to a patent from 1829, issued for the organ and piano constructor Cyrill Demian in Vienna. He laid the foundation for this modern instrument and the diverse possibilities it offers.

Especially the single-tone accordions (“Einzeltonakkordeons”), which allow the musician to play across multiple octaves, are well suited for transferring compositions ranging from the baroque period to temporary music.

The accordion’s popularity can be explained by its variable character; it can be used for solo, group, and orchestra playing. Further, you can take the instrument with you anywhere you go.
