Approximately in 1700, instrument maker Johann Christoph Denner from Nuremberg invented the clarinet. However, it was only 100 years later that the instrument’s appearance was similar to that of today.

Among others, the es-clarinet, a-clarinet, bass and contrabass clarinet, and the bassett horn belong to the clarinet’s family of instruments. The length of the pipe differs drastically between the different instruments; the es-clarinet’s pipe is 45cm long, the b-clarinet’s 67cm, and the contrabass clarinet’s pipe can be as long as three meters!

The clarinet is used variably in the music world, for example in chamber music, brass music, folklore, and in jazz. Moreover, the clarinet is part of Mozart’s famous clarinet concert and can also be found in many popular orchestra pieces from the Romantic and Modern period.

We advice to start taking up clarinet lessons at a minimum age of 8 years. A certain size of hands and arms is required. Apart from these factors, everybody is welcome – adults, beginners, advanced students and returnees!
