The piano is one of the most popular of all instruments, in classical as well as in pop music. Whether as a solo instrument or as part of a large ensemble, the piano charms with its characteristic sound. 

The piano we know today was invented in the late 17th century. Via keystroke, hitting small hammers against strings, using a finely tuned mechanism, the respective desired sound could be provoked. The primary modern types of pianos are the grand (piano) and the Pianino. 

The Italian instrument maker Bartolomeo Cristofori is recognised as the inventor of the first ever piano worldwide. Around 1698, he developed a keyboard instrument that allowed, via differently strong strikes, a fine nuance in volume.
